How Curious Are You?
I've been making Impossible Bottles for 25 years now. Wow! Recently, while attending the Magic Collector's Expo, a good client of mine asked me this question "How do you come up with different bottle ideas/creations?"
I had to think about it for a minute and then replied "By always trying to stay curious."When I got back home I asked some friends "What are you still curious about? Not what are you interested in, but really curious about? I was surprised how many of them couldn't answer the question. Which is why I wanted to write this quick little article.
As kids, curiosity, wonderment and imagination are what w use to learn about the world around us. Kids are curious about everything and ask lots of questions. Did you know the average 4 year old child asks about 300 questions per day? As adults, we probably haven't asked 300 questions this year (lol).
All of our creativity and imagination comes from curiosity, which then leads to discovery. Being a more curious person helps you become more open-minded about learning new things, ideas, interests and adventures.
More importantly, being curious helps you approach challenges, obstacles, constraints and limitations in a more positive and curios way, rather than fearing them. Which, by the way, is very important when creating Impossible Bottles. :-)
So, how curious are you? Staying curious has many benefits in both your personal and professional life. Here's a few ideas of how staying curious can help you.
* Curiosity makes your mind stronger: Being curious makes your mind more active. Our brain is a muscle. The more questions we ask the more your mind stays active and becomes stronger.
* Curiosity makes you more observant: When a new idea comes to us, staying curious, helps us recognize it much easier. Without curiosity many ideas simply pass us by.
* Curiosity keeps us more open-minded: When you stay curious you begin to see things differently. You begin to see things you normally wouldn't see which helps you look beneath the surface and discover all kinds of new possibilities.
* Curiosity makes life more exciting: When you're curious your life is probably far from being boring or routine. Curious people's lives are usually more exciting because there are always new things to discover, learn about and "toys" to play with. Instead of being bored curious people have a life filled with adventure.
So, next time you hear someone say "I'm just not that creative." Let them know they are, they simply lack curiosity.
Always be your best,
Jeff
